Create a Kit from scratch in a few easy steps!

Click the "New Kit" Button from your Dashboard (Gimkit.com/me)

Enter your Kit's name, language, and subject

Choose a Cover Image for your Kit. You can use Unsplash or any image link from the web.

Note: Paid Gimkit members will have a third tab and can upload images.

You can now add questions to your Kit. You have several options (we have help desk articles for all of them). For now, let's pick "Add a Question" so we can create our own questions from scratch.

Adding questions

Create your question by adding your question, correct answer(s) and incorrect answers. To change an answer from correct to incorrect, click the "Check" next to it. You can have as many correct answers as you like. You can also add media to your question here. When you're done with your question, click "Add."

🕹 Host a live game

Hosting a kit allows you to play a live game in class. You can host any public kit, but you'll only get reports for kits you own.

To host a kit, click the green Play Live to the right of any of your kits in your dashboard or click Play Live from the right-hand pane from inside any kit.

You'll be taken to the Mode Picker where you can browse the mode you want to use with your kit.

Select any mode and click "Learn More" to read details about that mode.

Once you've selected the game mode you want to use, it'll be outlined in yellow. Click the big Continue button in the upper right-and corner to move to the Game Options screen.

Are Gimkit accounts free?

Yes! It's free to create and use your Gimkit account.

Educator accounts receive a 14-day free trial of Gimkit Pro when they're created. Once the free trial expires, educator accounts are put on Gimkit Basic.

On Gimkit Basic, there are no limitations on the number of students you can use Gimkit with or the number of kits you can create or own.

Gimkit educator accounts can be upgraded to Gimkit Pro. Pro members receive access to:

Pro exclusive game modes
Assignments
Audio questions
Image uploads

Gimkit student accounts have some limitations around safety & security, but they are 100% free. There are no upgrade options for student accounts in Gimkit.

What types of accounts are there?

We have just two account types: Educator and Student. You select your account type when you create your free account.

Do students need accounts?

No! Students can play your live games and assignments without needing and account or logging into Gimkit. Your students will need accounts if you want to use classes or if you'd like them to earn XP and purchase cosmetics.

Welcome to Classes in Gimkit!

Classes serve a variety of purposes in Gimkit. Here are the primary benefits of setting up and using Classes:

Keep names appropriate in live games
Track assignment progress
Results for multiple assignment completions
Save assignment progress

Here's a quick overview of each of the above:

Keep Names Appropriate in Live Games

While we have an inappropriate language filter inside of Gimkit, it doesn't catch everything. Classes ensure that students will show up in live games with appropriate names only.

When you create a Class, your students will make accounts in Gimkit and join your Class using the link you provide. Once your students are in your Class, they'll show up with the names they've chosen on their accounts. You can edit how their names show up in your Class listing any time.

With Instant Join, your students will join live games automatically without needing the game code! Once joined into the game, your students will show up with the name from your Class. Simple and clean!
