Answers to the account questions we get most often. Don't see the answer you need? Let us know and we'll add it!

What kinds of accounts are there?

We have two account types: Educator and Student. You'll select your account type when you create your account.

Do students need accounts?

No! Students can play your live games and assignments without needing and account or logging into Gimkit. Your students will need accounts if you want to use classes or if you'd like them to earn XP and purchase cosmetics.

How do I reset my password?

Go to, enter your email address, and click "forgot password?" We'll send you an email with a password reset link. Find detailed instructions here.

How come I'm not receiving account emails from Gimkit?

If you don't get password reset or other account emails from us, your school is probably blocking our emails or sending them to spam. To make sure you receive emails from us, make sure and are set up as approved senders in your system. You can work with your school's IT department to get both domains cleared.

My account is limited. Why does Gimkit charge for Gimkit Pro?

We charge for Gimkit Pro so we can operate, maintain, and improve Gimkit.

We've decided not to allow ads in Gimkit or raise money from outside investors. This approach means we can build Gimkit for educators and students rather than marketers and venture capitalists. The tradeoff is that we rely on support from our members and their schools to keep Gimkit going.

We offer a robust free version called Gimkit Basic.

As a Gimkit Basic member, you can host games, create classes, and collect game reports without any limitations. All free Educator accounts come with a 14-day trial of Gimkit Pro. After that, if you don't want to pay for Gimkit, you can keep using the free version as long as you like.

Gimkit Pro gives you unrestricted access to all game modes, we call those Pro Exclusives. You'll also be able to assign kits as homework, upload images, and add audio to your questions. Learn more about Gimkit Pro here.
